Dallas Stars Andrew Cogliano Out with Upper-Body Injury

The Dallas Stars have announced that forward Andrew Cogliano will miss Thursday night’s game against the Los Angeles Kings due to an upper-body injury. It will be the first time Cogliano has missed a game due to injury over his 12-year NHL career.

Cogliano sustained the injury in Tuesday night’s game against the Vegas Golden Knights. He was on the receiving end of a hit from Golden Knights’ forward Ryan Reaves. He left the game immediately and did not return.

In 63 games this season split between the Anaheim Ducks and Dallas Stars, Cogliano has scored four goals and added 10 assists for 14 points.

Over his career, Cogliano has scored 160 goals and 222 assists in 929 games. He was originally drafted by the Edmonton Oilers in the first round, 25th overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft.

What This Means for the Future

Technically, Cogliano’s ironman streak came to an end last year as he missed the first two games of career due to suspension. However, this is the true end to the streak. He has never missed a game due to injury. Had he not been suspended, Cogliano would currently be sitting in second in most consecutive games played, just behind Doug Jarvis.

Cogliano was playing in place of Jamie Benn on the Stars second-line, with Benn currently nursing an upper-body injury of his own. Benn’s status as of now is up in the air for Thursday’s game as well.

If Benn can’t return to the lineup, expect Joel L’Esperance to draw into the lineup. L’Esperance was called up on Wednesday from Dallas’ AHL affiliate Texas Stars. In 50 games in the AHL this season, L’Esperance has scored 29 goals and added 15 assists for 44 points. He has played four games with Dallas this season, where he has failed to register a point.
