The Dallas Stars have signed center Tyler Seguin to an eight-year extension worth $78.8M and will pay him $9.85 million per year. This deal kicks in during the 2019-20 season and carries him through the 2028-29 season.
This is more than the $9.5M the team gave Jamie Benn back in 2016.

Dallas Stars Extend Tyler Seguin
Seguin has played for the Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars over the course of his eight-year NHL career. The five-time all-star has put up 229 goals and 276 assists for 505 points over the course of 590 career games. His best season was during the 2013-14 season when he scored 37 goals and 47 assists for 84 points in 80 games. He has seven goals and 14 assists for 21 points in 49 career playoff games. Seguin won the Stanley Cup with the Bruins during the 2011 season. Seguin was originally drafted 2nd overall in the 2010 NHL Draft by the Bruins.
Last season he scored 40 goals along with 38 assists for 78 points in 82 games. He also added 43 minutes in penalties. His possession numbers were 51.5 percent Corsi with a relative Corsi of +0.4%. Seguin is coming off a six-year, $34.5 million dollar deal that he signed in September 2012.
What This Means For The Future
The Stars have locked up their top goal scorer from last season. Seguin, at 26 years old, is part of the Stars top line. The Stars also have a decent face-off man in Seguin who last year was 54.9 percent on draws and owns a career 51.7 percent on faceoffs during his career. Seguin was a vital part of the Stars power-play last year leading the team with 14 goals with the man-advantage.
By signing Seguin to an extension before his current contract runs out, the Stars are proving they want him as a part of the foreseeable future. With Benn currently in the middle of his eight-year deal, the team is making sure to lock up its top forwards.
