The first day of the NHL Draft is complete, but there are plenty of NHL rumours to be had. Day one of the draft didn’t see any trades, but that could change on day two. We also have the start of free agency on Saturday. There is plenty of chatter about some of the signings that we may see coming up this weekend. Today’s NHL rumours has items on the Boston Bruins and the New York Islanders.

NHL Rumours
Boston Bruins
Rumour: The Athletic’s Rick Dhaliwal said the Bruins and Milan Lucic may be in line for a possible reunion.

Analysis: Lucic had the best run of his career when he was helping the Bruins to the Stanley Cup. He did manage to play for both the Calgary Flames and Edmonton Oilers after leaving Boston. However, the veteran forward could be returning back to Boston. The Bruins are up against the salary cap and Lucic might be willing to take a lower payday to play for a contender. The Bruins are trying to find low-cost options on the bottom part of the lineup and the Vancouver native could help.
Lucic’s contract was an overpay, but can likely still help in the bottom six. Boston is trying to erase the end of an otherwise good season. The Bruins won the President’s Trophy, but were ousted by the Florida Panthers in seen games. Lucic could get the same contract that David Krejci got to come back and help the club. General manager Don Sweeney might be able to get a low-cost veteran that has a wealth of experience.
New York Islanders
Rumour: Newsday’s Andrew Gross talked to Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello about the future of unrestricted free agent forward Zach Parise. Lamoriello said that Parise is undecided about his future.

Analysis: Parise had his contract bought out by the Minnesota Wild, but latched onto the Islanders. The Minneapolis native did score 21 goals for the Isles, but will be 39 years old soon. He still put up a solid season, but his age could be a question going forward.
One upside could be a contract could be short term and at a low cost. Lamoriello was able to get Parise at one year deals at $750,000 for the last two seasons. The salary cap may have nudged up to $83.5 million, but it’s likely another short-term, low-cost deal would be in the offing. Rolling the dice on one more season of the American forward could worth it if he does come back for another season.
