Left Winger James van Riemsdyk Signs UFA Contract

Veteran Right Winger James van Riemsdyk has signed as an Unrestricted Free Agent (UFA). He is signing with Boston Bruins and is locked in for next year and will make $1 million.

The signing is an underrated one by any stretch of the imagination. James van Riemsdyk is still a peak player. When it comes to the playoffs, you want him on your team, although how long that will last will ultimately determine his accurate value. But of course, hindsight is always 20-20.

Power Forward James van Riemsdyk Signs a Contract

Let’s examine some of his statistics. In 2021-22 he scored 24 goals over a full 82-game season. This was all the while playing 16:07. If this was spanned out in competitive games, he should be able to increase this total. When it counts late in games he is still a guy you want out on the ice. Throughout JVR’s career, he is a seven-time 20-goal man. Impressed? Well also keep in mind he played through multiple reduced seasons. He is at exactly 300 career goals. Also, he managed a very respectable CF% Rel of 56.1 this past season as a member of the Philadelphia Flyers. A stat that he is 55.3 over his career.

What Does This Mean for the *

When you acquire a player like James van Riemsdyk, you know at worst your second line gets better. He is a guy that competes in the playoffs. For example, his 20 goals in 71 playoff contests portray that fact. Furthermore, he is a Left Winger. You know he will be responsible defensively. He likes to bang and crash and will finish when his chances come. The term of the contract could come as a surprise. However, JVR has proved himself to deserve such a number.  His new club can take solace that they have won the deal. They get a goal scorer, a playoff performer, with size and speed up front.
