David Kampf Has Re-Signed with the Toronto Maple Leafs
Kampf is a native of the Czech Republic. He signed his original ELC with the Chicago Blackhawks in 2017. After playing four seasons with Chicago, he signed as an UFA with the Maple Leafs back in 2021.
Kampf is coming off a solid season for the Buds, recording seven goals and 20 assists for 27 points. This was all the while logging 15:18 of ice time. Moreover, last year, Kampf recorded a similar 11 goals and 15 assists for 26 points. Most important for Kampf, is the tough minutes he logs. He has a defensive zone start % of a remarkable 81.5. That was comparable with his 2021-22 total of 82.6%. Furthermore, he is a very reliable penalty killer. A commodity that never goes astray. He was also strong in the post season, playing all 11 contests, and chipping in with three assists.
What Does This Mean for the Toronto Maple Leafs
For the team, they are bringing back a familiar face. The fact that the Maple Leafs are so top-heavy at the forward position, this is an important move. Therefore, they need reliable forwards to fill out top-nine type roles. Kampf does a great job of that task. This will allow Treliving to focus on rounding the top-six forwards somewhat. The depth comes into question when they are so top-heavy so that is a priority for Treliving. This is the early days for Treliving, and he has his work cut out for him. Signing Kampf was a quick win for both sides.
