Welcome back to another day of NHL Predictions. Each day, Last Word on Hockey takes a look at the games that are happening and gives our predictions for each one, breaking down head-to-head and other factors that may play in. We also have a featured game of the day, which is considered must-watch TV. Today’s featured game is between the Vegas Golden Knights and the Edmonton Oilers.
NHL Predictions: Vegas Golden Knights vs Edmonton Oilers
Washington Capitals vs Pittsburgh Penguins
Head to Head: Capitals 1-0 Penguins
The first game on the NHL Predictions is a old-time rivalry. Another chapter will be written as Sidney Crosby and Alexander Ovechkin go head to head. The Washington Capitals and Pittsburgh Penguins square off in a crucial matchup. Pittsburgh currently occupies the final wild card spot and Washington is four points back.
These two points are really important. For the first time in over a decade, fans could see neither team in the playoffs. As the season has gone on, both Ovechkin and Crosby have made history individually. However, this is about the team.
One x factor will be in net. Tristan Jarry has not been good as of late. He is 1-3 in his last few starts. In addition, his goals against average is 4.04 and save percentage is .862. Darcy Kuemper has been much better and will be a reason the Capitals get the two points.
Prediction: Capitals defeat Penguins 4-2
St Louis Blues vs Anaheim Ducks
Head to Head: Blues 2-0 Ducks
Our next game on the NHL Predictions is between two non-playoff teams. The Anaheim Ducks take on the St Louis Blues. Both teams are well behind the pack for the playoffs, but hockey still matters regardless.
Both teams struggle on special teams. But there plenty of players to watch for. St Louis has three 60-point players on their roster. Those are Jordan Kyrou, Pavel Buchnevich, and Robert Thomas. Anaheim has it’s own firepower with Trevor Zegras and Troy Terry. It may not be the most exciting matchup, but it’s a game worth tuning into.
Prediction: Blues defeat Ducks 5-2
Vegas Golden Knights vs Edmonton Oilers
Head to Head: Golden Knights 0-2 Oilers
Our featured game on the NHL Predictions is a Pacific Division showdown. The Vegas Golden Knights take on the Edmonton Oilers. Vegas holds the division crown, but Edmonton is six points back. However, these teams meet two more times making these two points important.
Edmonton is riding high. They are on a four-game winning streak. They continue to be the best offensive team averaging an absurd 3.93 goals per game. In addition, the power play is first in the league. Connor McDavid eclipsed the 60-goal mark and is five away from surpassing Ovechkin’s total from 2007-08. Vibes are high in Edmonton.
Vegas is also riding high as they’ve won three straight. They have not allowed more than three goals in their wins. One player that has thrived since joining is Jonathan Quick. He is 5-1 in six games played. In addition, he has a 2.93 GAA and .908 save percentage. He will need to be ag his best against a red-hot offence and lethal top six.
Prediction: Oilers defeat Golden Knights 4-3
