The deadline is drawing closer and closer. Some teams have pending unrestricted free agents that are likely to be on the move, whereas others are trying to lock in a contract extension. One team to watch, in particular, is the Detroit Red Wings. The Dylan Larkin rumours are taking off, and he is a player to watch for as the deadline approaches.
Dylan Larkin Rumours On His Future Begin To Swirl
Rumour: David Pagnotta from The Fourth Period discusses the stalled extension talks with Dylan Larkin
The Dylan Larkin rumours are swirling and for a reason. Larkin is entering the final year of his five-year contract he signed. With the market for centres rising each and every day and given what centres have received on the open market, the price is going to rise. The Michigan native has made it known he wants to stay, but a deal has not been able to get done. Both sides will remain in discussions of course, but one detail in his contract is that Larkin has a NMC. If a deal cannot get done, he can waive it and move on elsewhere. Or if he chooses not to and a deal does not get done he just becomes a free agent. Tough dilemma especially since he is the captain.
Why Trade For Larkin
The Dylan Larkin rumours surrounding his future are brewing. You can never have too many centres come playoff time. Depth is so important that time of the year, and given he is younger than some names on the block, he is an attractive piece. Larkin is a two-time 30-goal scorer and had a career year last year with 69 points. He plays with elite speed, has good finishing touches and is a playmaker.
A few teams could ring Steve Yzerman’s phone. It is well known that the Carolina Hurricanes are seeking a second-line centre behind Sebastian Aho. The centre by committee has not worked well and it’s lacking in the top six. As lethal as the Colorado Avalanche were a year ago, the departure of Nazem Kadri creates a need at the position.
If Larkin does come as a rental, but the ball is entirely in his court.
