Ken Holland has sent someone an early Christmas Gift. The Edmonton Oilers have locked up goaltender Stuart Skinner to a three-year extension with a cap hit of $2.6 million per season. This is a great deal for him and the team and it helps solidify the crease beyond this season.

Stuart Skinner has signed an extension to remain with the Edmonton Oilers. After his stellar play in the crease, the extension was more than deserved. Despite Holland nabbing Jack Campbell in free agency, inking Skinner further was the right move.
Skinner’s Impact
Skinner is having a good year for the Oilers. In fact, he has gotten more of the starts than Campbell, and in addition to that has outperformed his counterpart in the crease. After signing in free agency, Campbell was pegged as the starter but has looked more like the backup. Campbell is rocking a subpar 4.04 GAA and a .875 save percentage. It is far from what the Oilers expected. But they are pleased with the results from their newly extended netminder. Skinner has a 2.83 GAA and a .915 save percentage. He is rocking a 0.7 GSAX, which is not bad to have to his name as well.
An Oiler For A While Longer
Stuart Skinner has spent his entire young career with the Edmonton Oilers. After a small sample size last season, he is proving that it was no fluke. With the Oilers a perennial contender in the Western Conference, it’ll need all the reinforcements they can get. Aside from the dynamic duo and complimentary top six pieces, having a goaltender to rely on is a breath of fresh air. Now that he has his extension locked into place, he can focus on further developing his game and being a rock in the net for the Oilers.
