A familiar face is returning to Broadway. While the circumstances do not have the same hype surrounding the player as it did the first time around, the reunion is very much happening. Jimmy Vesey has signed a new contract with the New York Rangers. Vesey will be returning to the rangers on a one-year deal and is worth $750,00. After spending last season with the cross-town rival New Jersey Devils, the forward returns to where it all began.
It’s official.

Jimmy Vesey Returns To New York
Jimmy Vesey has signed a new contract. Vesey is returning to the place where it all began. The forward began his career in the Big Apple and despite not living up to the hype around him, he did not have bad years with the team. In three seasons with New Yok, he put up point totals of 27, 28, and 35. He tallied 50 goals, 40 assists, and 90 points in 240 games for the Rangers. Since then the player has bounced around playing for the Buffalo Sabres, Toronto Maple Leafs, Vancouver Canucks, and this season the New Jersey Devils.
Vesey’s Past Season
Vesey did not have a bad year for the New Jersey Devils. Serving as a fourth line winger and a depth forward, he went on to score eight goals, seven assists, and 15 points. As shown by Evolving Hockey, he does not provide much on offence, but he is excellent on the penalty kill. His short-handed defence is exceptionally well, and he thrived on being a penalty-killing depth forward for the Devils.
Why This Benefits The Team
This is a good move by the Rangers. Vesey will not cost much against the cap and it also provides a need. Forward Tyler Motte was an effective fourth liner that just priced himself out of town. Vesey can help fill that void as he becomes a solid fourth liner that can kill penalties. His style of omah should fit the coaching style of Gerard Gallant.
Why This Benefits Jimmy Vesey
Maybe Vesey never lived up to the hype that surrounded him, but he is still 29 years of age and brings something to the table. It’s not a mega-deal, but Vesey has the ability to go to New York and into a system that suits the type of role he has. Vesey he the chance to compete and earn his spot on the roster. It’s a full circle and he get to go back to where it all began.
