P.K. Subban May Return to Devils

ESPN’s Greg Wyshynski reports the Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald is open to bringing back Subban for the right price. Subban’s contract expired at the end of the season and many thought he’d be gone. However, the $9 million man may still find his way back to Newark.

Subban has fallen off in recent seasons after helping the Nashville Predators to the Stanley Cup Final in 2016-17. He’s not hit double-digit goals since 2018-19, which was his last year in Music City.

His best point season was last year with the Devils with 22 points but only five goals. He’s also struggled on defensive end and his analytics have suffered. The veteran defenceman has also played for the Montreal Canadiens besides his time with Nashville and New Jersey. He also won the King Clancy Award for the 2021-22 season.

What It Means

Subban may not be the Norris Trophy winner that he used to be. However, he could still help out a defensive group at the right price. He can still chip on with some goals if needed and can on a power-play unit.

The Toronto native is 33 year old and at the end of his career. He may not light the stat sheet up like the old days, but he could help a team in the top four or second pairing. There’s still room for him in the league and the busy Devils might be able to help.
