What This Means for the Future
Copp is a versatile forward that can play in the centre spot or on the wing. He finally broke into the 20-goal column for the first time this season. The 27-year-old was a vital part of the Rangers’ push into the Eastern Conference Final. He was able to move throughout the lineup when head coach Gerard Gallant needed him. Copp is the type of player that is solid at both ends of the ice. He is an asset and will get paid like one.
Copp did cool off as the post-season went along, but he is a key player for any team that he’s on. Being able to play multiple forward slots gives him an edge and makes him a valuable piece. In signing with the Red Wings, Copp returns to his home state of Michigan. His experience and versatility will be extremely useful on a rebuilding team looking to take the next step.
