The Seattle Kraken continue to ship players off to other teams in exchange for a better future. Defenceman Jeremy Lauzon was traded to the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2022 second-round pick. Pierre LeBrun was the first to report.

Jeremy Lauzon Traded By Seattle Kraken
The 6’1″ defenceman hasn’t been one of Seattle’s better players this season. While he’s producing more than usual, that’s not saying much. Through 53 games he has one goal and five assists, totalling six points, just two shy of his career-high. His advanced numbers confirm his suboptimal play. Both his Corsi For percentage and relative Corsi percentage are bottom three on the struggling Kraken. In his three years prior to joining the Kraken, he played for the Boston Bruins but didn’t see much playtime, just 76 games over those three seasons. In his four-year career, he’s played in 129 NHL contests, racking up a measly 17 points, but with over 130 minutes in penalties.
How This Affects Both Teams
Seattle is obviously looking to the future. Sitting last in the Pacific Division by about 20 points, the Kraken would need multiple miracles to have a chance at making the playoffs. With Jeremy Lauzon traded for a second-round pick, they both offload some cap space ($850,000) and get another draft pick. Hopefully, for Kraken fans, this pick will bring them out of the basement.
For the Predators, they add a depth defenceman. While he’s no Roman Josi, he’s a cheap option in case of an injury or some other weird scenario. Only adding $850,000 to their cap is a drop in the ocean compared to their millions in cap space. Speaking of which, don’t be surprised if the Predators use some of that cap space to try and get a big fish with a trade to increase their playoff potential.
