The Arizona Coyotes re-signed another of their useful pieces out today. Travis Boyd has been re-signed to a two-year, $1.75 million AAV contract. The team announced the signing, and the details were confirmed by Ben Hankinson.

Travis Boyd Re-Signed By Arizona Coyotes
Boyd has been on the edge of the NHL for a few years, often as a thirteenth forward. This season he signed on with the Coyotes at a bargain-basement price of $750K and it’s paid off. Instead of scraping by at 10 minutes per game, Boyd has been used in a solid middle-six role. In his 46 games with Arizona this season, he’s scored 10 goals and assisted on 14, totalling 24 points.

He plays primarily as a centre, though can be used on either wing if needed. Then again, part of his nature is to go where he’s told and do what he has to. It would be a terrible idea to put him in goal, but he’d do it without hesitation.
What This Means For The Future
Up until this season, he scored 13 goals and 41 points in 124 NHL games. His increased numbers this year aren’t likely to continue unless there is a sudden need. That being said, he’s taken full advantage of his increased time with Arizona. It’s much easier to believe that he can step up as needed, filling in much higher in the lineup than previously expected. It wouldn’t be all that surprising to see him become a regular. As the Coyotes rebuild their roster, Boyd will either prove to be a worthy player or increase his trade value over the next two years. Even on a struggling team, Boyd is proving to teams everywhere he should be a regular on an NHL roster.
