Forward J.T. Miller has been re-signed by the Vancouver Canucks. The Vancouver Canucks sign Miller to a huge deal worth $56 million. The deal is seven years with an AAV of $8 million per season. This will keep Miller in Vancouver long-term.

Vancouver Canucks Sign Miller
Miller first came to the Canucks during the Tampa Bay Lightning‘s salary cap crunch in 2019. Even with that internal pressure, the Lightning got a good return for a solid middle-six forward with a good cap hit. They got a 2020 first (Shakir Mukhamadullin), a 2019 third (Hugo Alnefelt), and spare goaltender Marek Mazanec.
Then general manager Jim Benning promised fans they would like what they saw. Fans were mixed in their reactions, looking at a team that was bouncing along at the bottom of the league standings trading away draft picks.
Through the 2021-22 season, Miller did everything for the Canucks including wearing an “A”. Tremendous versatility has been a hallmark of his career, and it’s no different now. Throughout last season, Miller played 80 games, scoring 32 goals and 99 points. His remaining year at $5.25 million is a bargain any way you slice it. If players were paid at the end of each season, then Miller is easily a $10 million man. The question becomes, will he remain an $8 million dollar player into his 30’s? He will be 30 when the deal kicks in.
What This Means
Keeping J.T. Miller tells the fans that the team still wants to compete this season. And that they’re not interested in starting from scratch.
For Miller, he will continue to be a leader for this team. He has seemingly been the heart and soul in that locker room for a bit now, and that will not change.
