The Buffalo Sabres have announced that goalie Craig Anderson is day-to-day with a lower-body injury. Anderson is still being evaluated says, coach Don Granto. Aaron Dell will serve as the backup for Dustin Tokarski. Tokarski will get the starting job.
Craig Anderson Injury and Sabres Goalies
Craig Anderson signed a league-minimum, one-year contract with the Sabres over the summer. With the departure of Linus Ullmark, the Sabres needed to fill the goalie position after an abysmal 2020-21 campaign. The Sabres have had a strong start to the 2021-22 season. The club sits 4th in the Atlantic Division, with a record of 5-4-1.
The veteran netminder had appeared in six games to start the season. Anderson has a record of 4-2 with a .921 save percentage and 2.5 goals-against average. He has posted a GSAx of -0.96 so far. Along with the rest of the Sabres team, Anderson has been performing above expectations. Analysts and reporters had the Sabres in the bottom-two of their power rankings along with the Arizona Coyotes
Furthermore, a major factor of their success has been goaltender, Dustin Tokarski. Despite a record of 1-2-1, Tokarski has recorded a GSAx of 2.92. This ranks 12th among goalies this season. Tokarski has a save percentage of .924 and a goals-against-average of 2.44. Additionally, Victor Olofsson, Rasmus Asplund, and Kyle Okposo have been great contributors to the offence. Olofsson leads the squad with five goals and nine points on the season.
What this means for the Future
With former Sabres Captain, Jack Eichel, shipped off, the Sabres look to hit the reset button. Their return in the trade wasn’t great, but Peyton Krebs and Alex Tuch will be good pieces for the offence. The Sabres will continue to rely on their strong goaltending and young forwards for their success. With Craig Anderson out, Dustin Tokarski must continue his strong play for the Sabres to stay in the playoff hunt.
