Ryan Pulock was extended by the New York Islanders late on Wednesday night. The contract is for eight years and is worth a total of $50 million. The first five years include a no-trade clause, and the last three include a limited no-trade clause.

Ryan Pulock Extended By Islanders
Pulock has been a workhorse for the Islanders the past few seasons. He played all 56 games last season, racking up a whopping 17 points (two goals and 15 assists). But that’s not what Pulock brings to the table for the Islanders. His all-around good defence makes him the right defenceman for nearly any scenario. He brings exactly what the Islanders are known for: slow gameplay, puck control, and a grind game that wears down their opponents. His possession numbers were solid as well, a 51.7% Corsi For and a 4.6 relative Corsi. Over his six-year career with the Islanders, Pulock has played 290 games, scoring 33 goals, assisting on 92, totalling 125 points. He’s been sitting at an average of a little over 22 minutes of ice time per game for multiple years.
What This Means Moving Forward
With Ryan Pulock extended, the Islanders can breathe a sigh of relief. A core piece of their infamous defensive unit is sticking around long-term. With partner Adam Pelech on his side, these two will take top-line minutes. New acquisition Zdeno Chara will likely take third-line minutes with Noah Dobson, and Andy Greene and Scott Mayfield will round out the starting six. But it’s not just these six that will keep pucks out of their net. The Islanders are known for strong defensive forwards who are more than capable of holding their own in the defensive zone. With Pulock locked up for eight more years on a relatively cheap AAV, the Islanders’ defence will be strong for many seasons to come, no matter the other defensemen on the blue line.
