Columbus Blue Jackets Center Max Domi To Miss 5-6 Months

Star center Max Domi underwent successful surgery to repair an injured right shoulder on Thursday. The Columbus Blue Jackets will be without him for 5-6 months, meaning he will miss the start of next season. However, this is good news, as he should be 100% healthy and ready to play in the middle of the 2021-22 season.

Center Max Domi Will Miss 5-6 Months After Successful Surgery

After a trade that sent Domi to Columbus, he hasn’t been as effective. Granted, Columbus was a much worse team than the Montreal Canadiens this season. Even so, he only had 24 points in 54 games, the fifth most on his team. For a player that is capable of putting up 70 points in a full season, this was a less-than-ideal season for Domi. For such a great player, his career has been surprisingly underwhelming. He’s only made the playoffs one year and has yet to finish top five in voting for any trophy.

Looking Forward To Next Season

The Blue Jackets were awful this season, no way of putting it nicely. Finishing lower in the Central Division than the Detroit Red Wings was unexpected and shocking to fans. Patrik Laine, Seth Jones, and Max Domi all underperformed, and their goaltenders were not as unstoppable as last season. They didn’t have a 50-point player or a 20-goal scorer on their team and were in the bottom fourth of the league for goals for and goals against.

So this next year will be very telling to the direction management wants to take the team. They could try to win with the roster they have. With about $1.5 million in cap space and three first-round picks this year, Columbus has a shot at moving up in the rankings. There are not too many big contracts on the books, and a lot of their players are young and have great potential. If the Blue Jackets fail to improve next season, there could be some big changes on the horizon.
