Jaromir Jagr Scores No. 700

2014: The New Jersey Devils winger gets his 700th goal in a 6-1 win over the New York Islanders. Jagr gets the milestone goal at 3:31 into the second period. He also ties Marcel Dionne for ninth all-time with his 1,040th NHL assist.

The ageless wonder gets an assist on Marek Zidlicky‘s power-play goal at 8:07 of the second period. Jagr is still playing in the Czech Republic with his team HC Kladno  of the Czech Extraliga.

Other Notable Events

1919: The Montreal Canadiens Newsy Lalonde gets a still league-record five Stanley Cup playoff goals. Lalonde scores five times in a 6-3 win over the Ottawa Senators.

1968: The roof of the Spectrum blows off and forces the Philadelphia Flyers on the road. Philadelphia has to play games in Toronto, New York and Quebec City. However, the Flyers win the West Division title despite this.

1969: Brothers Bob Plager, Barclay Plager and Bill Plager all take the ice for the St. Louis Blues. However, Yvan Cournoyer gets a power-play goal in a 3-0 win for Montreal.

1970: Charlie Burns becomes the final player/coach in league history in the Minnesota North Stars, 8-0, win over the Toronto Maple Leafs. Burns helps Minnesota end a 20-game winless streak and he remains player/coach for the rest of the season.

1988: Edmonton Oilers centre Wayne Gretzky becomes the league’s all-time leader in assists with his 1,050th assist. He sets up Jari Kurri‘s goal in a 5-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings.

1989: Detroit Red Wings centre Steve Yzerman becomes the first player in team history to score 60 goals in a season. He scores in a 6-5 road victory over the New York Islanders.

1993: Pavel Bure becomes the first 50-goal scorer in Vancouver Canucks history as he tallies the first of two goals in a 5-2 win over the Buffalo Sabres.

2003: Barry Trotz of the Nashville Predators sets an NHL record for the most games coached with an expansion team from its beginning. Trotz leads the Predators to a 5-4 win over the Chicago Blackhawks in his 392nd game coached.
