Carolina Hurricanes top line forward Teuvo Teravainen has a concussion and will miss multiple games. There is no timetable for his return yet.

Teuvo Teravainen Out with a Concussion
Teuvo Teravainen has been a key part of the Hurricanes offence since arriving in Raleigh. Last season, he put up 15 goals and 48 assists for 63 points in 68 games. So far this season, he’s looking to keep that same pace. With two goals and seven assists, combining for nine points in only 12 games, Teravainen is continuing his hot streak.
Usually playing on a line with Sebastian Aho and Andrei Svechnikov, he contributes a high share of the Canes’ offence. With a Corsi rating of 60.7 percent and a relative Corsi of 8.3, he’s clearly one of the most important pieces to the Hurricanes team. While he’s lower on the charts in points and goals, he still provides incredibly important contributions to the team as a whole.
Moving Forward
The Hurricanes kick off a back-to-back against the Tampa Bay Lightning Wednesday night in a battle for a top spot in the Central Division. With Teuvo Teravainen out due to a concussion, the Hurricanes will be missing his presence on the ice. While the Canes are a very deep team, losing a top line winger is not insignificant. Especially when Carolina is only one point behind the Florida Panthers, and the Lightning are only three points behind the Hurricanes. And with the Chicago Blackhawks right on the tail of the Lightning, the Hurricanes desperately need points to pull away.

With no return date for Teravainen, the Hurricanes could slip down a few places in the standings. While it is early on in the season, every point matters, especially in the highly competitive Central Division. If the Hurricanes want to stay competitive, they need to at least split the series against the Lightning.
