Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid

Edmonton Oilers star forward Connor McDavid has reached 500 career points in only 369 games played. This makes him the eight fastest player to accomplish this feat – tied with Pittsburgh Penguins legend Sidney Crosby.

Edmonton Oilers Connor McDavid Reaches 500 Points

The best forward in the league, McDavid has been on fire once again this season. Every season he’s played over 70 games, he’s had over 100 points. Currently, he’s sitting at 30 points through 17 games, an average of about 1.7 points per game. He leads the league in points and assists, and is tied for fifth in the league in goals. On the Oilers, he leads them in points, goals, assists, leads all forwards in average time on ice, and has the lone hat trick. Just the eye test suffices to see how good McDavid is, but the advanced stats confirm that. His relative Corsi is the highest on his team with 15.4, and his Corsi is a 58.6%.

McDavid’s skating ability is second to none: his quickness and speed go unmatched. His ability to explode from a slow stride to full speed with the puck makes him the most dangerous player on the rush. Every team knows how quickly a goal can be scored with him on the ice. This is evident as Connor McDavid reaches 500 points in so few games.

But what really makes him so deadly is his ability to draw attention. Countless times he will draw two or three defenders to him, and then dump it off for an odd man situation in favor of the Oilers, leading to a high danger chance. The issue for opposing teams is twofold: leave him alone and he’ll score, double team him and he’ll likely get an assist. McDavid has been causing problems like this for years since he was drafted number one overall in 2015. Currently the best player in the NHL, McDavid is slowly climbing the ranks of many people’s top players ever.
