Oilers Looking to Improve Goaltending With 2026 Stanley Cup Winning Goalie

The Edmonton Oilers are seeking to improve their goaltending, following a trade for Devon Levi earlier. 2026 Stanley Cup-winning goaltender Frederik Andersen signs with the Oilers on a one-year contract. What does this mean for Tristan Jarry and the Oilers’ goaltending tandem? Let us discuss the details.

Oilers Seek Better Goaltending As Frederik Andersen Signs

Andersen turns 37 in October, but he might still have something left in him to give. He has seen mixed results amidst five injury-riddled seasons with the Carolina Hurricanes, but had a strong Stanley Cup Playoff run in 2026, which led the Hurricanes to the Stanley Cup championship. In his career, Andersen has a 324-149-58 record, a 2.59 goals-against average, and a .913 save percentage in 552 career games spread across the Anaheim Ducks, Toronto Maple Leafs and Carolina Hurricanes.

In the 2025-26 season, Andersen posted a 16-14-5 record, a 3.05 goals-against average and an .874 save percentage. He also posted a 13-2 record in the Stanley Cup Playoffs, a 1.89 goals-against average, and a .910 save percentage.

A Predicament for Oilers Goaltenders

Oilers general manager Stan Bowman stated on Wednesday that Tristan Jarry would be back with the team, but as Andersen signs in Edmonton, along with Devon Levi, how would Jarry fit into that equation? Definitely, many questions still remain unanswered, from how Mike Babcock will fare with the team, the fallout from the Darnell Nurse trade, as well as the goaltending situation in Edmonton that needs to improve greatly. Will Andersen be the answer to a long-standing issue that has stopped the team from winning a Stanley Cup championship? Time will tell.
