Oliver Bjorkstrand Contract Signed with the New York Rangers

The signing of Bjorkstrand, a skilled winger known for his offensive prowess and responsible two-way play, marks a solid for general manager Chris Drury. It shows he is trying to rely on his professional scouts to find players that can help his team.

Journeyman Off to New York, New York

Bjorkstrand, who was originally traded to the Seattle Kraken in 2022 after a productive stint with the Columbus Blue Jackets, found his way to Tampa Bay in a strategic acquisition that paid immediate dividends. His arrival injected a fresh burst of scoring and playmaking into the Lightning’s top-six forward group. Throughout his career, Bjorkstrand has consistently demonstrated an ability to find the back of the net and contribute offensively, often exceeding expectations. His 28 goals and 29 assists for 57 points in the 2021-22 season with the Blue Jackets highlighted his potential, a potential that the Lightning have expertly leveraged.

Scoring Touch

His playing style seemed to be a perfect fit for the Lightning fast-paced, possession-oriented game. Bjorkstrand possesses an excellent shot, quick release, and a knack for positioning himself in high-danger areas. Beyond his scoring touch, he is also a diligent forechecker and back checker, contributing to the team’s defensive efforts and transition game. This well-rounded skill set makes him a valuable asset in all situations, from power plays to crucial defensive zone face-offs. His ability to adapt and perform alongside various linemates had been a key factor in his success in Tampa. He will now look to transition that success to New York.

New York already landed Pavel Dorofeyev, so they really solidified their offensive attack was adding Bjorkstrand. The offseason is still young, but the Rangers might have more major moves to make.
