Vancouver Canucks Defender Filip Hronek Reportedly Facing Serious Injury at Fortuna Games

The Vancouver Canucks 2025-26 NHL season may be over, but that did not stop the bad news from coming. According to Czechia reporter Zdenek Janda of Denik Sport, top Canucks defenceman Filip Hronek was injured in a game against Finland in the 2026 Fortuna Games. The Fortuna Games are considered a preliminary event to the IIHF World Championships. Six Canucks players are currently participating in the games. Aatu Raty, Linus Karlsson, Liam Ohgren, Nils Hoglander, and Jiri Patera are the players who are participating.

Hronek’s Injury Potentially More Serious Than Expected

Canucks fans could be bracing for some tough news in the coming days, as Hronek’s injury could be serious. I’m afraid it might be something more serious,” said Czechia head coach Radim Rulìk (translated from Czech).

In the same game, Michael Spacek was also injured and probably done for the Fortuna Games, according to the coach. Rulìk was not happy about Finland’s unnecessarily rough play during the game. Janda also published a post-game article, which clarified some details about Hronek’s injury. “Towards the end of the game, Hronek was left lying on the ice after being tackled by Mikael Seppälä,” reported Janda. Hronek exited the game, limping off the ice, after the hit.

Canucks faithful will hope that Hronek’s injury is not as serious as reported, as he has been a mainstay in the Canucks lineup. He had a career-high in points this season with 49, leading the Canucks defence after Quinn Hughes was traded. He was one of three players who played in all 82 games for the Canucks this season, the other two being Marcus Pettersson and Drew O’Connor. Hronek has also been mentioned by coaches and management as a leader on the team. Furthermore, he could be a candidate for the next captain of the team.

Hronek’s injury remains uncertain, so whenever more details come out, we will keep you posted.
