Time: 7 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

Our second game of NHL predictions has the Buffalo Sabres attempting to end their long playoff drought when they take on the Washington Capitals. Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen is the likely starter for the Sabres, who are 6-2-2 in their last 10 games. However, Buffalo did lose to the Ottawa Senators last time out. Tage Thompson leads in goals (38), assists (40), and points (78) this season.

Logan Thompson is the probable starter for the Capitals, who are also 6-2-2 in their previous 10 games and coming off a loss. Washington is three points behind the second wild card spot despite some writing the team off. Alex Ovechkin leads the team in goals (31) and points (59) for the Capitals.

Buffalo may already have a playoff spot locked up by the time the puck drops. However, the Sabres will leave no doubt with a win.

Prediction: Sabres win 4-2.
