The Toronto Maple Leafs have parted ways with general manager Brad Treliving after about three full seasons. This change comes as the Maple Leafs sit third last in the Eastern Conference standings with a 31-30-13 record. They are on track to miss the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time since the 2015-16 season.

Maple Leafs Firing of General Manager Brad Treliving
“Throughout the course of this season, there has been deep analysis into both the current state of the Maple Leafs organization and the direction needed to achieve the ultimate goal of delivering a Stanley Cup championship to the city,” said Maple Leaf Sport and Entertainment president and CEO Keith Pelley in a statement. “Brad Treliving is a man that we all have deep respect and appreciation for, both as a hockey executive and as a person, but it was determined that the club must chart a new course under different leadership. The organization is grateful for all that Brad has contributed in his nearly three years with the Maple Leafs and we wish him and his family the very best.”

It has been a tough season for the Maple Leafs, and it seemed necessary that a change in staff was made. The team has looked disinterested as of late, as they found themselves out of Stanley Cup contention. The fate of Treliving was one of the questions heading into the offseason. Now that he has been let go, we ponder why Treliving was in charge of the NHL Trade Deadline. The fate of Craig Berube and the coaching staff is still in question this offseason.
Keith Pelley will meet with the media at 2:00 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time on Tuesday, where he will address the change in management. The team will search for a replacement as the season comes to an end in a few weeks. Toronto had a record of 139-92-27 through 258 games with Treliving as general manager at the time of firing. Treliving had previously been the general manager of the Calgary Flames from 2014 until 2023.
