Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota Wild Do One-For-One Player Swap

Welcome to NHL Trade Deadline morning. Trades are coming fast and furious, and the Philadelphia Flyers and Minnesota Wild have agreed to a trade. Right winger Bobby Brink is headed to Minnesota, while defender David Jiricek is going to Philly. This is a straight-up swap, with no extra parts attached.

Flyers and Wild Look For a Win-Win Trade

Bobby Brink has been acquired by the Minnesota Wild. In 55 games this season with the Flyers, he has recorded 13 goals and 13 assists for 26 points. The 24-year-old forward was drafted in 2019 by the Flyers at 34th overall. Moreover, what he brings to the table is the ability to play a playmaking, middle-six role. He is set to become a restricted free agent at the end of this season, carrying a $1.5 million salary cap hit currently. He will likely slot into Minnesota’s third line alongside Yakov Trenin and Danila Yurov. Brink will look to find more of an offensive touch on a higher-scoring team. The Wild have already made headlines in trades, acquiring forward Michael McCarron and defenceman Jeff Petry.

The Jiricek and Brink Trade from Philly’s Perspective

David Jiricek is going the other way, to the Philadelphia Flyers. He has yet to record a point this season in 25 games this season with the Wild. Jiricek went sixth overall in the 2022 NHL Draft, drafted by the Columbus Blue Jackets originally. He has yet to find his scoring touch as an offensive defenceman, and a new change of scenery may help. However, he is playing in the AHL’s Iowa Wild, but could play third pair for the Flyers. Therefore, the Flyers hope to be the team that unlocks Jiricek’s potential. Furthermore, he is in the same situation as Brink, being a restricted free agent at the end of the season, but making less money at $918,000 currently.
