In a bit of an expected move, the Ottawa Senators are taking a swing at a middle-six potential type of forward. People could argue either way whether he is, or not. However, he is a strong skater, with good strength, and hands. Also involved in the trade are some draft picks. Let’s discuss the details of this Ottawa Senators and Los Angeles Kings trade on the eve of the 2025-26 NHL Trade Deadline.

Senators Trade for Foegele from Los Angeles Kings
If you look at his career, Warren Foegele has been steady, there’s no debating that fact. In his career 82-game average, he would have 16 goals, 16 assists, and skate 13:47 minutes a game.
Last year was his career highs, but this year his production has dropped off. Of his career highs, goals (24), assists (22), points (46), 16:10 minutes a game, so a very productive first season in California.
However, in 2025-26 in 47 games, he has just seven goals and two assists. It could be that an injury from November has been nagging, but either way, the level of reduction is concerning.
How Foegele Fits in Ottawa
On the other hand, Ottawa is making a big move here. If Foegele is 100% healthy, and ready to show a repeat of last year’s numbers, this will be big. Their forward group is very smartly constructed, and they will look to find a specific role for Foegele. It seems many of their players like Shane Pinto or Dylan Cozens would be able to work with Foegele’s speed. Or the Ridly Greig and Tim Stutzle angle, of playing a more skilled attack.
Warren Foegele, acquired by OTT, is a two-way middle six winger. Has had an unfortunate season (5% on-ice shooting at 5v5 and 2 assists in 47 games) but still brings good penalty killing, wheels, and offensive upside. #GoSensGo pic.twitter.com/ivGBJpi3gb

The return for L.A. will be a second-round draft pick, as well as the swap of conditional third-round picks. So, Ottawa still hangs on to their prospects, if they want to land that coveted, big top-four defenceman. L.A. is currently sixth in the Pacific Division standings, and certainty feeling like sell mode. It is a strange season with Anze Kopitar retiring. So, they would like to do a roster reconstruction of some type over the next season or two.
