Monday Night Hockey: Red Wings vs Maple Leafs

Head-to-Head: Red Wings 1-0 Maple Leafs

Time: 2 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time (EDT)

How to Watch:

TV: Amazon Prime (Canada); Fan Duel Sports Detroit; ESPN+

We’ve got a surprise matinee matchup between Original Six rivals at Scotiabank Arena. The Red Wings are looking to make a statement in sweeping this early home-and-home set with the rival Maple Leafs. Detroit rallied from going down 2-0 to pull off a 6-3 victory over Toronto.

This game was originally slated for a 7 p.m. start, but the Leafs wanted to accommodate Game 2 of the American League Championship Series between the Seattle Mariners and Toronto Blue Jays. This is why the game was moved up to a 2 p.m. puck drop.

It’s the perfect way to celebrate Thanksgiving in Canada. Let’s take a look at the stats and storylines of this longtime rivalry in our NHL predictions.

The Red Wings Story

Detroit struggled early in Saturday’s contest at Little Caesars Arena. However, the Red Wings reeled off six of the last seven goals to get their first win of the season. Lucas Raymond scored twice, and Patrick Kane added a goal and two assists for Detroit. Alex DeBrincat also racked up three assists for the Red Wings.

Cam Talbot is the confirmed starter after making 20 saves to get the win in between the pipes. Talbot settled in after giving up a couple of early goals. He also appeared in the season-opener after John Gibson faltered in the season-opening loss to the Montreal Canadiens.

Kane is the team’s leader in points with four, while DeBrincat’s three points have him second among the team’s point leaders.

The Maple Leafs Story

Toronto got off to another fast start with an early goal from Calle Jarnkrok. It looked like the Leafs were going to coast to another victory. However, Detroit came to life in the second and third periods. The Wings totaled three goals apiece in the second and third periods.

Anthony Stolarz is the projected starter, but always check social media before locking in a daily fantasy starter. Stolarz made 29 total saves, but the team had trouble stopping the Red Wings in the latter stages of the game.

Morgan Rielly and William Nylander each lead the team in points with a goal and three assists for four points. Jarnkrok is the team’s surprise leader in goals with two so far this campaign.

Prediction

Detroit bounced back after a shaky opening. However, Toronto is looking to rebound in its own matter. The Maple Leafs have gotten off to fast starts in both games so far this season.

It’ll be key for the two teams to get off on the right foot. However, the Maple Leafs take advantage of home ice and get the win.

Prediction: Maple Leafs win 4-2.

Prop Bets of the Night

We round out NHL predictions with some prop bets of the night. The over/under for this game is 6.5, and we think the under is the right play in this game.

As for individual props, go with Dylan Larkin to get the over on 0.5 assists for Detroit. On the Toronto side of things, take Auston Matthews to get an anytime goal.
