Today, it was announced that Steven Lorentz has signed a new contract. This follows what was a solid contract season for him. The Toronto Maple Leafs re-signed the veteran forward to a three-year deal worth $1.35 million per season.

Steven Lorentz never made his NHL debut until he was 24 years old with the Carolina Hurricanes.
The now 29-year-old is coming off a strong contract season. In 80 games for the Toronto Maple Leafs in 2024-25, he managed eight goals and 11 assists, which tied for a career-high 19 points. However, where you really began to see a player like Lorentz’s value was in the playoffs. His physical brand of hockey and work ethic were definitely an asset for the Leafs 2025 post-season.
Lorentz has scored 29 goals and 62 points in 310 career games. He was originally drafted in the seventh round, 186th overall, in the 2015 NHL Entry Draft.
What Will He Bring, Based on What He Has Brought
This is a player; in four trips to the postseason, he has accumulated 45 games. In those games, he has collected eight points in less than ten minutes a game. Furthermore, he’s brought great energy, collecting a combined 114 hits in those games. He also brings with him a pedigree. Folks may recall he was a Stanley Cup champion in 2024 as a member of the Florida Panthers.
In 2024-25, Lorentz found himself used in a fourth-line role. Being a reliable player in such a role is such a huge asset. Moreover, he primarily found himself linking up with David Kampf, among other similarly utilized forwards.
Lorentz was ecstatic to come home and join the Maple Leafs last season, so it’s no surprise that he locked in to a longer-term contract with the team. The low cap hit leaves lots of room for the Leafs to try to bring in a top-six forward to replace Mitch Marner, who was dealt earlier in the day.
