Toronto Maple Leafs Coach Provides Multiple Injury Updates

The Toronto Maple Leafs will miss multiple players for their next game against the Columbus Blue Jackets. At Tuesday’s practice, head coach Craig Berube provided an injury update on John Tavares, who was placed on injury reserve last week. Tavares was injured in practice after getting tied up awkwardly with defenceman Chris Tanev. Max Pacioretty and Connor Dewar also deal with a minor injury per Berube. In addition, there was an update on goaltender Joseph Woll as he was absent from practice.

Berube Gives Injury Updates

The Maple Leafs have improved their winning streak to three games. It started with wins against the New Jersey Devils and Montreal Canadiens. The team is coming off a 5-3 win against the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday. While the team is in great form, they’ll have to deal with a few losses to the roster. Berube shared updates on players who have been out of the lineup and new absences.

Tavares and Pacioretty were unavailable against the Lightning and Tavares missed the Canadiens game too. According to the Leafs head coach, Tavares has not skated since his injury on Jan. 15. There hasn’t been a timeline for his injury or any other details, apart from it being a lower-body injury. However, Berube hopes that he gets back on the ice soon. When Tavares was placed on IR, the team announced that he was “week-to-week.”

Berube mentioned that Pacioretty and Dewar will be out of the lineup for Thursday’s game against the Blue Jackets. Both forwards are listed as day-to-day with upper-body injuries. Dewar played against Tampa Bay, taking 10 shifts and clocked in at 5:10 of ice time. Ryan Reaves will fill in for Dewar on Toronto’s fourth line.

Lastly, Woll got the day off from practice and took a maintenance day. He set a new career high in starts with 24, last season he had 23. He’s also in line to start his fifth straight game in nine days on Thursday against Columbus.
