NHL predictions

With the large amount of games on tonight’s NHL schedule, it might be hard to know where to start. We at the Last Word on Hockey have helped narrow your focus to our best bets. This round of NHL Predictions will help condense the slate into three best bets and one prop bet of the night.

NHL Predictions

Montreal Canadiens vs Detroit Red Wings

Head-to-Head: Canadiens 1-1 Red Wings

TV: Sportsnet; Bally Sports Detroit Extra; ESPN+

Our opening game has the Montreal Canadiens trying to spoil the Detroit Red Wings Stanley Cup Playoff chances. Sam Montembeault is the expected starter for the Habs, but always check social media before locking a daily fantasy starter. Montreal is 4-4-2 in the last 10 and has lost two straight games. However, the Habs are more than capable of ruining the Red Wings post-season hopes. Nick Suzuki has 33 goals and 43 assists for the Canadiens. Cole Caufield has scored seven goals with two assists over the last 10 games.

James Reimer is likely tasked with keeping the Red Wings’ playoff hopes afloat as he’s the scheduled starter as of press time. Detroit is 3-4-3 in the last 10 games and is tied with the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals on points for the second wild card spot. Alex DeBrincat has scored 26 goals with 39 assists for the Red Wings. Team captain Dylan Larkin has five goals and six assists over the last 10 games.

Detroit knows what’s at stake in this one. They live to die another day.

Prediction: Red Wings win 4-2.

Boston Bruins vs Washington Capitals

Head-to-Head: Bruins 1-1 Capitals

TV: NHL Network; NESN; Monument Sports Network

Our featured game of NHL predictions has the Boston Bruins looking to wrap up the Atlantic Division title in Washington. Jeremy Swayman is the expected starter for the Bruins, who are 6-4 in the last 10 games. A win here would wrap up the division crown with one game to spare. Team leading point-getter David Pastrnak has 47 goals and 62 assists for the Bruins. Danton Heinen has four goals and four assists over the last 10 games.

Charlie Lindgren is slated to be in goal for this pivotal for the Capitals, who are 3-5-2 in the last 10 games. Washington is tied with Detroit and the Flyers for the last post-season spot in the East. Dylan Strome has scored 27 goals with 39 assists for the Capitals. Hendrix Lapierre has six assists over the last 10 games.

Both teams have things at stake in this game. Boston makes things a little more taxing in this one.

Prediction: Bruins win 3-2.

San Jose Sharks vs Edmonton Oilers

Head-to-Head: Sharks 1-1 Oilers

TV: NBC Sports California; Sportsnet West; ESPN+

Our last game of NHL predictions has the San Jose Sharks facing the Edmonton Oilers. Devin Cooley is the expected starter for the Sharks, who are 3-6-1 in the last 10 games. Leading-scorer Fabian Zetterlund has 22 goals and 20 assists for the Sharks. Mikael Granlund has two goals and 10 assists over the past 10 games.

Stuart Skinner is the likely starter for the Oilers, who try to keep their faint division title match. Edmonton is 6-2-2 in the last 10 games, but has lost two straight games. The Oilers are five points off the division lead held by the Vancouver Canucks. Connor McDavid has scored 31 goals with 99 assists for the Oilers. Leon Draisaitl has four goals and eight assists over the last 10 games.

Edmonton still a chance to win the division and will get that two points. However, it may be too late.

Prediction: Oilers win 5-2.

Prop Bet of the Night

We’ll stay with the last game of the night for our prop bet of the evening. McDavid is one assist off being only fourth player to get 100 apples in a season. We’ll take McDavid getting +1.0 assists in this game.
