NHL Rumours: Edmonton Oilers and New York Rangers

Welcome to another edition of NHL Rumours! Marc-Andre Fleury had his name further etched in the history books, as he passed Patrick Roy on the all-time wins list. What an exciting time and moment that was and there is more to come. The rumour mill has been churning and more stuff is going on behind the scenes. Today we focus on the Edmonton Oilers and the New York Rangers.

NHL Rumours

Edmonton Oilers

Rumour: Elliote Friedman discusses the future of Corey Perry

Don’t look now but the Edmonton Oilers have made a roaring comeback in the NHL standings. After a disastrous start, they are thriving under their new head coach and sit in a wild card spot. Connor McDavid has his mojo back and is playing like a Hart Trophy calibre talent. Like every good team, they are looking for reinforcements. One player to keep an eye on is free agent winger Corey Perry.

Perry was released by the Chicago Blackhawks but can now look into signing with a new team. Elliote Friedman linked the Toronto Maple Leafs and Edmonton Oilers but cited something that begs a question. He begins to wonder if Perry would like to play somewhere quieter and without the attention or spotlight on him. Both of those teams are passionate hockey markets and always have the spotlight.

However, the Oilers have shown interest in Perry and he would be a big boost to the lineup. The team is heavily reliant on its top end talent and would love depth to help in the postseason. Perry is no stranger to the playoffs and his experience would be a benefit to the locker room. He had nine points for the Blackhawks this season, but will look to thrive on a more high flying offence in Edmonton.

New York Rangers

Rumour: David Pagnotta from the Fourth Period links the Rangers to Sean Monahan

The next set of NHL Rumours take us to the Eastern Conference. As it stands, the New York Rangers are at the top of the Metropolitan Division but the team has hit a skid. Every club goes through adversity and for the Rangers it is coming at the right time. However, one injury has set the club searching for an answer.

Losing Filip Chytil to a concussion has hurt the club more than anything. He is a great anchor to the third line and has shown tremendous growth in his game. With his absence, the team has had to rely on Nick Bonino and Barclay Goodrow down the middle. A clear upgrade is in need and one player Pagnotta links to the Rangers is Sean Monahan.

Monahan is a free agent at the end of the season and is a likely trade candidate. He is a great depth centre and is enjoying another successful season in Montreal. He has 11 goals and 25 points in 43 games with the Canadiens. Also, he has been excellent in the faceoff circle with a 57.7% success rate.

Monahan would be a great boost offensively and help take the Rangers further than they are already going.
