NHL Rumours: Calgary Flames and Dallas Stars

Calgary Flames UFAs; NHL Rumours

It’s time for another edition of NHL rumours to get you through your weekend. We’re closing in on the start of training camps, but the NHL rumours are going to kick up again. Teams are trying to get things in order when it comes to their respective rosters. Some players are going to be unrestricted free agents at the end of the season. This means some clubs are going to try and sign extensions before they hit the market. Other clubs may wait to make additions at the trade deadline. Today’s NHL rumours focus on the Calgary Flames and the Dallas Stars.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

NHL Rumours

Calgary Flames

Rumour: The Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli dove into the progress between Elias Lindholm and a new contract extension.

Analysis: Lindholm is part of the large group of free agents that the Flames have this coming off-season. Seravalli said the Flames are still trying to make a push to get Lindholm a new deal. New Calgary general manager Craig Conroy has some tough choices to make, but he knows how important Lindholm. Seravalli said there may be some progress between the two sides.

The insider said that Lindholm’s camp may be more willing to listen on an extension. Things may have looked bleak in the beginning of the summer, but there may at least be hope. The Swede is in the final year of a deal that sees him $4.85 million per season. There’s no doubt that he wants to get a nice raise for the soon-to-be 29-year-old.

Calgary does need to get to work on signing Lindholm. He’ll likely have plenty of suitors waiting for him if he doesn’t ink a new contract. The Flames may have their hand forced when it comes to the forward if extension talks fail.

Dallas Stars

Rumour: Said Yousuf of The Athletic said the Stars may be in the market for a right-handed defencemen at the deadline.

Analysis: Yousuf was quick to point out that the team was not in the market for Erik Karlsson. Dallas also missed out on Jeff Petry, who got traded to the Detroit Red Wings. However, Yousuf quick to point out that they are other names that could be available.

The Carolina Hurricanes could still move on from Brett Pesce because of the number defenders they have. Pesce is in the final year of his deal and the Canes could move on from him. There are a few other names like Tyson Barrie, Chris Tanev and Matt Dumba that may be on general manager Jim Nill‘s radar.

The Stars have some good defenders like Miro Heiskanen and Esa Lindell. However, shoring up blueline depth is never a bad thing. Dallas will keep an eye on the standings and may spring into action to get a player they need.
