Jake Sanderson Extension Possibilities
Rumour: The Athletic’s Ian Mendes answered a question about what the next contract could be for the 20-year-old blueliner. Mendes said that the Whitefish, Montana native and the Senators have a few options. Sanderson will enter the final year of his entry-level contract, but can sign an extension on July 1.

Ottawa’s young defender has four goals and 27 assists in 76 games and is touted as a cornerstone of the Senators backend. Thomas Chabot is already locked up to a long-term deal and general manager Pierre Dorion probably wants to do the same with Sanderson. There are a couple of directions that Ottawa can go.
What a Jake Sanderson Extension Could Look Like?
The Senators could go long-term and give Sanderson over $9 million per season. This could rival deals for players like Adam Fox, Cale Makar and others. However, Dorion could do a bridge deal similar to what Rasmus Dahlin got of three years and $6 million per season. The bridge contract would help keep the cap number done. However, there’s possibility Sanderson outperforms the deal and asks for a bigger cap number.
The Senators have some big money in Brady Tkachuk, Tim Stutzle and Chabot. There’s hope the cap number takes its long-awaited increase thanks to the ESPN TV deal. However, the Senators might have to break out the cheque book to pay Sanderson.
