Cole Caufield Extension Update

Rumour: The Fourth Period’s David Pagnotta gave an update on contract talks between the Habs and the young forward. Pagnotta said that there hasn’t been much movement between the two sides. He’s said there’s been open talks, but there hasn’t been a deal as of yet. However, there’s no concern between the two parties and both feel a deal will get done. Talks have been going on for a while.

Caufield had his season end early due to injury, but he’s going to play a large hand in Montreal’s future. The former University of Wisconsin product finished with 26 goals and 36 points in 46 games. His season ended after a shoulder injury against the Nashville Predators. The 22-year-old had surgery, but should be ready for the 2023-24 season.

When Will a Cole Caufield Extension Get Done

General manager Kent Hughes and Caufield will get a deal done before the start of the next season. The Canadiens have been pretty smart at locking up key pieces of their future. Montreal made sure captain Nick Suzuki got signed before he got into offer sheet territory.

The good news is Caufield cannot get an offer sheet because he only has two years of service. Hughes and team president Jeff Gorton have the leverage, but they’ll make sure that their sniper gets a fair deal. Caufield will get a good contract, so there’s no reason for Canadiens’ fans to panic.
