It’s time for another round of NHL rumours for your Wednesday. There are some big names out there for the March 3rd trade deadline. However, more teams are emerging in the race to land a particular San Jose Sharks. Many teams have already announced their intention of wanting a Timo Meier trade. However, the Winnipeg Jets are now a new candidate to land the Swiss forward.

Jets Interested in Timo Meier Trade

Rumour: TSN’s Pierre Lebrun said that the Jets have emerged as a team that wants to land Meier. Winnipeg would love to bolster their scoring and Meier would do that. The 26-year-old is the top prize on the TSN Trade Bait board and Jets general manager Kevin Cheveldayoff has made calls.

The Jets offence is in the middle of the pack in the league at 15th. Winnipeg is trying to chase down the Dallas Stars for the Central Division lead. However, landing Meier would be a big boost for the club. Meier does become a restricted free agent, but has a $10 million qualifying offer waiting for him.

Can the Jets Swing a Trade?

Sharks general manager Mike Grier can weigh all the offers from the different teams. Meier has been long rumoured to be on the move since many of the trade lists have come out. There are some big names and big teams that have already made their giant deal.

However, teams like the New Jersey Devils and Carolina Hurricanes are currently listed as the main favourites to get the three-time 30-goal scorer. He’s the big prize at the deadline and that’s become of his scoring prowess. Meier will be on the move, but the number of suitors for the right winger grows every day.
