Dylan Larkin Contract Extension Talks Continue

Rumour: Pierre LeBrun on the latest edition of TSN’s Insider Trading mentioned that contract talks between Larkin and the Wings will continue this weekend at the All-Star Break. LeBrun mentioned that Pat Brisson, Larkin’s agent, and the Wings have gotten some movement. However, these talks have been going on for months and Detroit hasn’t signed its captain.

Larkin has been the leader in goals and assists for the Red Wings this season. He’s played like the captain for the club that this team has been seeking. However, a deal still hasn’t been done and all options could be on the table. This could include a trade since Larkin’s contract runs out at the end of the season.

What the Dylan Larkin Contract Talks Could Mean

The Michigan native does hold the power in this situation. He has a full no-movement clause and would have to approve any trade if the Wings do decide to go that route. General manager Steve Yzerman wants to know the future for one of his main pieces by the time the March 3 deadline rolls around.

Larkin is a vital cog in the Red Wings future, and they’ll want to do everything to keep him. Detroit has a lot of promise, but losing out on Larkin would be a big blow to that if they don’t get a good return.
