Stars Looking to Swing Anton Khudobin Trade

Rumour: Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek talked about some teams looking at the Stars goalie for a depth option. This was during Saturday’s Hockey Night in Canada Headlines segment. Khudobin is currently playing in the AHL with the Texas Stars as Jake Oettinger and Scott Wedgewood occupy the net for Dallas.

One main issue could be the Russian’s salary of $3.75 million. It could be a little pricey for some teams, but some clubs may be willing to pay the price to have a good backup. Dallas could try to retain some salary to sweeten the deal, but it may be a final option. One other positive is that he is on an expiring contract and an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season.

What an Anton Khudobin Trade Could Mean

Khudobin was very good in the 2020 Stanley Cup bubble when Dallas reached the Stanley Cup Finals. He has put together some decent numbers in the AHL with a 12-3-4 record and 2.78 goals against average. This makes him valuable for some teams looking to shore up their goalie depth.

There have been a few teams that have been looking into getting goalie help. He may not be the top prize for the trade deadline. However, the veteran goalie would be a smart play for teams. The trade market at the deadline is always interesting and Khudobin may have a new home.
