NHL Rumour: Minnesota Wild Defencemen Could Be On His Way Out

Matt Dumba, Minnesota Wild

If there is one surprise team right now, it is the Minnesota Wild. Not getting off to the hot start everyone expected, concerns surrounding their future are in question. One player to watch out for is Minnesota Wild defenseman Matt Dumba. Depending on how the season goes, he could become a trade target around the deadline.

Matt Dumba Could Be Trade Deadline Target

Rumour: Michael Russo From The Athletic talks about Matt Dumba being on the move in his contract year

Bill Guerin has already shaken things up with this team. He bought out the contracts of Ryan Suter and Zach Parise while also trading Cam Talbot. With the way the team is playing, if success is not seen with this core group a shakeup could be coming.

Dumba Could Be On The Move

One player that could be on the move is Minnesota Wild defensemen Matt Dumba. The Wild are off to a 2-3-1 start and have been very poor defensively. In addition to that, the goaltending hasn’t been better and if this core group does not see success, a shakeup could be coming. Dumba even went on to address the situation and say, “Shake it up,” Dumba, understanding the reasoning for the changes, said. “We haven’t had the success that we wanted, so something’s got to change and guys have to step up. Guys gotta start playing their game, definitely myself included. I recognize that.”

It will be interesting to see what happens the rest of the way. It is still early, but nothing is being ruled out.

Why Dumba Could Be Traded

Dumba is in the final year of his contract. However, if things do go south for the Wild, he could be on his way out. Prospect in the pipeline Brock Faber could sign upon the conclusion of his junior year and be inserted right in the lineup. Instead of losing Dumba for nothing, they could move him for something as his replacement awaits.

Dumba has scored 75 goals, 149 assists, and 224 points in 525 career games. He has spent his entire career in Minnesota. This season he has two points in six games.
