NHL Rumours: Winnipeg Jets Forward Talks About Future

Pierre-Luc Dubois future

It’s time for another edition of NHL rumours. Preseason games are underway, but teams and players are continually thinking about the future. Some big names could come onto the market if they don’t sign contract extensions. One player that’s got a lot of buzz surrounding him is Pierre-Luc Dubois and his future status. He’s been linked with a move to his hometown Montreal Canadiens, but signed his qualifying offer with the Winnipeg Jets. Today’s NHL rumours will look at Dubois’ future after this season.

All NHL rumours come from the original source and are subject to change.

NHL Rumours: Pierre-Lue Dubois Discusses Future

The Jets forward sat down with TSN’s Darren Dreger to talk about his future. Dubois inked his one-year qualifying offer and many think he’s not long for Winnipeg. However, Dubois tried dispelling those rumours and said he’d be open to staying with the Jets this season. He said he could see himself with the club long-term.

Many think Dubois is seeking a move to the Canadiens via trade or when he becomes an unrestricted free agent. The Ste-Agathe-Des-Monts, Quebec native grew up cheering for the Habs and could be the next great French-Canadian star. Dubois’ agent even said that his client wants to come to play for the Canadiens. However, going back home may not be a foregone conclusion.

Dubois stated that everyone wants an instant answer, but he’s had time to reflect over the summer. He’s going to take his time and explore every option before making a decision.

What It Means for The Future

We can understand the nervousness of Jets fans as they get closer to the trade deadline. There’s a worry that Dubois will walk away without the team getting anything back for him. Could Winnipeg make a move if the team falls out of the Stanley Cup Playoff race?

The 24-year-old is open to signing any type of contract, whether it’s a short or a long-term deal. He said he won’t make a decision until he’s “100 percent sure” of his next move. Both Jets and Canadiens fans are waiting to see if he’ll be part of their favourite team’s lineup.
