David Krejci Returns To The Boston Bruins

For more than a decade, the Boston Bruins have been a playoff contender. Building a core from within, the team has been able to compete each and every year. While things have changed, some remained the same, at the centre position. The Bruins have had the luxury of a 1-2 punch down the middle with Patrice Bergeron and David Krejci. While Bergeron has just renewed a contract on a one-year deal, David Krejci has signed a new contract.

Krejci returns to the Boston Bruins on a one-year deal and is worth $1 million with $2 million in performance bonuses. This is massive news for the Bruins, as many were wondering what the position would look like and now it has all come together.

David Krejci Returns To Boston On New Contract

After the conclusion of the 2021 playoffs, Krejci decided to return to his home country and play in front of his friends and family. The long-time Bruins centre was missed during the next campaign. His impact on the club was always felt and with him returning it brings stability to the lineup. After spending his entire NHL career in Boston, he returns to where it all began.

David Krejci Career Stats

David Krejci was drafted by the Bruins in 2004 and became a full-time NHLer in the 2007-08 season. Throughout his career, he has skated in 962 games and scored 215 goals, 515 assists, and 730 points. He has also tallied 124 points in 156 playoff contests. He has spent his entire career in Boston. Krejci was a member of the Bruins’ 2011 Stanley Cup team and has been an established part of the core.

How This Contract Impacts The Boston Bruins

This impacts the club in such a big way. Even though Erik Haula was not bad centring the second line, he is not Krejci. Krejci has such good playmaking ability and hockey IQ and is a true top-six centre in the league. Krejci brings stability and balance not only to the top six but also to the centre depth.

In 2018-19, he posted 73 points in 81 games. He would follow that up with 43 points in 61 games. For comparison, in his last year in Boston, he went on to score 44 points in 51 games. Haula had the same production, but in more games played. Krejci can slot in on the power play and give the team more firepower up front. It is a huge move for the team.

How This Impacts Krejci

David Krejci has signed a new contract. Like Bergeron, Krejci is a lifer in Boston. If he had never chosen to play in the Czechia, he would have remained in Boston. For him to come back and be part of the group means more to him than it does to us. As he nears the end of his playing career, he looks to bring the Stanley Cup back to Boston.

Closing Thoughts

This is huge for the Bruins. To not only lock up Bergeron but to now sign David Krejci to a new contract is massive. While the Bruins are without key players to begin the season, having these two in the fold is enormous for the team. The Bruins went from dead in the water to now being able to tread water and contend for a playoff spot among the elite in the conference. It is important as teams such as Detroit Red Wings and Ottawa Senators improved, that the Bruins also got better.
