Vincent Trocheck Linked To Metropolitan Division Team

If there is one team that has sent shockwaves through the league thus far, it has been the Pittsburgh Penguins. They have been bush and active with signing their players. Bryan Rust, Rickard Rakell, Kris Letang, and goaltender Casey DeSmith have all been extended. Long-time centre Evgeni Malkin is walking via free agency and there is a hole to be filled. Vincent Trocheck is a free agent and needs a new contract and could fit the bill.

Vincent Trocheck Could Be A Penguin

Rumour: Elliotte Friedman writes on the Sportsnet Website that with Malkin walking, they could turn to Vincent Trocheck.

Vincent Trocheck could have plenty of suitors come free agency. The former Carolina Hurricanes centre has been linked to the Boston Bruins. But with Patrice Bergeron returning and negotiating with David Krejci, that shoe does not fit anymore. With Sidney Crosby still playing at a high level, Trocheck can come in and anchor the second line. The need is there for the team, and he proved that he can be a top-six centre in this league.

Trocheck Is Worth A Contract

Vincent Trocheck needs a new contract. After the stellar campaign he displayed, he is worth bringing on board. Vincent Trocheck is coming off his best season with the Carolina Hurricanes. Playing in 81 games, he scored 21 goals, 30 assists, and 51 points. In addition, he would score 10 points in 14 playoff games.

Trocheck finished the season with a whopping 67.9% on-ice goals percentage. His possession numbers were good as he finished with a Corsi For Percentage at 59%. What he also brings to the lineup is his ability to win faceoffs. He was exceptional inside the dot, winning 54.6% of his draws.

Why It Benefits The Player

This is perfect for Vincent Trocheck. The Carolina Hurricanes have been cup contenders since his arrival. Now he gets to join another team that can still contend for the Stanley Cup. The Penguins still boast a solid core and while Sidney Crosby is still around, they will be competitive. A complimentary piece to a team who plans on winning the cup is an ideal situation for the centre.
