Rem Pitlick has been claimed off of waivers by the Montreal Canadiens. The 24-year-old has played this entire season with the Minnesota Wild, putting up 6 goals, and 11 points in the 20 games he’s played this season.

Rem Pitlick Claimed By The Canadiens

Rem Pitlick has had an interesting start to his NHL career. He was selected by Nashville 76th overall, then spent three years with the University of Minnesota before making the jump over to the NHL in the 2019-2020 season. He played all but one game with the Milwaukee Admirals, where he recorded 36 points. Pitlick then split the 2020-2021 season between the Predators and the Chicago Wolves, putting up 10 assists in two NHL games, and notching 8 goals for 10 points in 8 AHL games.

Rem also has a lot of family ties to the NHL, being the cousin of Tyler Pitlick, and the son of Lance Pitlick.

What This Means For The Future

Considering that the Canadiens have been plagued with injuries and COVID-19 sidelines, having at least 20 players out at one point, bringing in a fresh face without having to give up any assets is a major bonus for a team that’s currently in a complete nosedive. Pitlick is also having his best year in the NHL, so he’ll bring some much-needed offence to a canadiens team whose star offensive players have been struggling to put points on the board.

If he does spend some time in the AHL this season, it’ll take some pressure off of the Rocket who have seen the majority of their top guys graduate to the NHL. The Canadiens are also having one of the largest collapses in franchise history. So for them, seeing a young and promising forward like Rem on waivers is at least a positive in a season riddled with negatives.
