Brandon Tanev Out With Season-Ending Injury

Brandon Tanev out

Bad news for the Seattle Kraken and their fans has struck. Forward Brandon Tanev is out with a season-ending ACL injury. There is no timetable for his return.

Brandon Tanev Out For Rest Of the 2021-22 Season

The man famous for his wide-eyed head portrait will have to watch the rest of the Kraken’s season. Picked in the Kraken expansion draft from the Pittsburgh Penguins, Tanev has been a great supporting role for this new franchise. 15 points split between nine goals and six assists over 30 games is respectable for a tenured player such as Tanev. He was averaging third or fourth line minutes, about 14 and a half minutes a game. However, his advanced numbers knock him down a peg. Only a 45.3% Corsi For and a -5.4 relative Corsi doesn’t help Tanev’s case. However, the Kraken have been struggling this season, so it’s not all on him.

What This Means Moving Forward

With Brandon Tanev out, the Kraken will have to find other players to fill his shoes. However, with such a small prospect pool and an already bottom-tier team, this season is going from bad to worse. Currently sitting at eighth in the Pacific division, the Kraken are going to need a lot of help if they want to make it to the playoffs.

The only other left winger listed on their roster is Max McCormick, but he’s only played five games with no points. Players like Mason Appleton (six points in 19 games), Morgan Geekie (nine points in 30 games), and Riley Sheahan (four points in 19 games) will need to step up their offensive production to account for the loss of Tanev.
