Fabian Lysell Signs Entry Level Contract with Boston Bruins

Fabian Lysell

The Boston Bruins and 2021 first-round draft pick Fabian Lysell have agreed to terms on an entry-level contract.

Bruins, Fabian Lysell Agree to Contract

Fabian Lysell was one of the top draft prospects available in this year’s class. We had Lysell ranked as the 10th best prospect in 2021. Ultimately, he fell to the Boston Bruins at the 21st pick. While the reasoning for his fall is uncertain, the Bruins were more than happy to select him at this point in the draft.

Statistics and Projections

Lysell played 26 games in the SHL last season. In those games, he was limited to just three points. That is not a bad showing, however. He was a teenager playing in a league with fully grown men. He put his skill set fully on display at the U-18 World Junior Tournament. Playing for Team Sweden, Lysell posted nine points in seven games, including three goals. When playing within his own age group, he has always been one of Sweden’s top performers.

In our own scouting report on Lysell, Ben Kerr noted that Lysell is a talented skater and that it may be one of his best attributes. And while he tends to prioritize playmaking over goal scoring, his ability to put the puck in the net should not be underestimated. Ultimately, a good NHL comparison for Lysell would be Toronto Maple Leafs‘ winger Mitch Marner.

Boston was lucky to get Lysell where they did. He should not have fallen so far. Lysell immediately becomes the Bruins’ best prospect. The team has lacked top-tier prospects for some time now. WIth Lysell added to the mix, he gives the team some hope for the future.
