Dale Hawerchuk Gets Five Assists in a Period

1984: The Winnipeg centre dishes out a record five assists in the second period of a 7-3 win over the Los Angeles Kings. He sets up goals by setting Morris Lukowich on a pair of goals. Hawerchuk also gets helpers on goals by Wade Campbell, Paul MacLean and Markus Mattsson.

The five assists gave Hawerchuk 82 points in 65 games. He finished with 102 (37 goals, 65 assists) as the former top overall pick helped the Jets qualify for the Stanley Cup playoffs.

1949: Montreal Canadiens goalie Bill Durnan earns his fourth straight shutout in a 1-0 win over the Boston Bruins. He eclipses Frankie Brimsek’s 1938 mark of three straight shutouts.

1971: Boston sets the record for most wins in a season with their 47th victory in a 6-3 triumph over the Pittsburgh Penguins. Phil Esposito gets a hat trick for his record sixth of the season.

1979: Philadelphia Flyers goalie Robbie Moore becomes the 15th goalie to get a shutout in his NHL debut. He gets the shutout in a 5-0 rout of the Colorado Rockies.

1982: Boston goalie Rogie Vachon gets his 355th and final win of his career in a 4-0 victory over Los Angeles.

1996: Detroit Red Wings goalie Chris Osgood becomes the second goalie to shoot the puck to score a goal. Osgood finishes off Detroit’s 4-2 win over the Hartford Whalers.

1997: Phoenix Coyotes winger Mike Gartner scores twice in a 5-0 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning. It’s the 17th time that Gartner has scored 30 or more goals in a season.

2000: The Bruins trade two future Hall of Famers in Ray Bourque and Dave Andreychuk to the Colorado Avalanche. The Bruins get Brian Rolston, Martin Grenier, Samuel Pahlsson and a first-rounder in the 2000 NHL Draft.

2004: Mike Sillinger becomes the third player to play for 10 different teams. He gets two assists in the St. Louis Blues 4-2 win over the New York Islanders.

2017: San Jose Sharks centre Joe Thornton becomes the 13th player to get 1,000 assists. He sets up Joe Pavelski in a 3-2 win over Winnipeg.
