Tim Stützle

Tim Stützle, the 3rd overall pick in the 2020 NHL entry draft has signed an entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators. Expected to make an immediate impact with the Senators, he tallied 34 points over 41 games with the Mannheim Eagles. After suffering a broken hand and needing surgery in October, Stützle has returned to the ice and is headlining the German team at the World Junior Championships.

Using Jeopardy host Alex Trebek and prominent Canadian to announce their pick, the Senators acquired Stützle third overall. After Alexis Lafreniere went to the New York Rangers, Quinton Byfield to the Los Angeles Kings, there was no way the Senators were letting Stützle pass them by. The 6’1 German left-wing was the highest-ranked skater by the Central Scouting Bureau.

A mature talent, with excellent playmaking skills, a strong work ethic, and extremely fast feet, Stützle is ready to follow in the footsteps of league MVP Leon Draisaitl. Stützle is the highest-drafted player from Germany in NHL history.

Playing most of his career as a centre, Stützle made the switch to left-wing for the majority of last season with the Mannheim Eagles. It is still up for debate what position he will play with the Senators, but rest assured he will have an instant impact on the 28th ranked Ottawa Senators.

Missing out on the 24-team playoffs, the Senators were looking for some talent to help fill out their roster for the upcoming season. Tim Stützle looks to be exactly what they need to make a mark on the brand new North Division.

What To Expect

As Ben Kerr writes Tim Stützle is amongst the best skaters from the 2020 NHL Draft. He can absolutely fly. Stützle also has very good acceleration. His ability to change speeds can be used as a weapon to fool defenders. Along with his skating he soft hands and quick stickhandling to control the puck while moving at top speed and making his quick cuts. This gives him the ability to be a truly dynamic forward. He can make a defender look silly if they don’t give him respect, and before the defender knows it, Stützle is behind them and cutting to the net.
