Throwing Haymakers Podcast: Episode 1

In the debut episode of the Throwing Haymakers Podcast, Mat, Brandon, and Josh offer their predictions for the Eastern Conference Qualifying Round Series. They also give their insight into the potential outcome of the Eastern Round Robins, as well as discuss the award nominees for the Calder and Jack Adams trophies.

In the East, most fans have their heads turned towards two intriguing qualifying round matchups. The series between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Columbus Blue Jackets projects to be a spectacular display. The matchup between a terrific Toronto offence led by Auston Matthews and William Nylander and a stingy Columbus defence led by Zach Werenski and Seth Jones makes for maybe one of the best playoff series this year has to offer.

The matchup between the Pittsburgh Penguins and Montreal Canadiens isn’t to be overlooked, either. Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin look to capitalize on an incredibly weak Montreal defence. Carey Price looks to keep the Habs in a competitive series.

Josh, Brandon, and Mat also offer their opinions on the Calder and Jack Adams Trophy nominees. They look into why surprise nomination Dominik Kubalik found himself on the list, as well as how close the Cale Makar/Quinn Hughes debate truly is. They also examine the merits of the nominated coaches. Deciding between two great success stories in John Tortorella and Alain Vigneault will be a difficult task for PHWA members.

Next week, the Throwing Haymakers crew plans to do another playoff deep dive. This time, they’ll look at the Western Conference playoff matchups.
