Nikita Kucherov Extended by Tampa Bay

2018: The Tampa Bay Lightning reward their high-scoring forward with an eight-year extension. Kucherov is coming off winning the Hart and Art Ross Trophies after a 41-goal season. He added 87 assists to get 128 for the season.

The Maykop, Russia native has netted at least 30 goals in all but his first two seasons in the league. He’s reached 40 goals twice and been an All-Star three times. The deal goes through the 2026-27 season. He finished this year’s COVID-19-shortened season with 33 goas and 85 points.

1957: The Detroit Red Wings get back goalie Terry Sawchuk from the Boston Bruins. Boston gets Johnny Bucyk in return.

1987: The New Jersey Devils sign free agent Bob Sauve from the Chicago Blackhawks.

1996: The St. Louis Blues sign free agent Scott Pellerin to a new deal.

1997: The New York Islanders sign free agent forward Sergei Nemchinov.

2003: Goalie Dominik Hasek announced his return after a one-year retirement. He had played last with the Red Wings in the 2001-02 season that got him his first Stanley Cup. Hasek’s return causes a headache in goal as Curtis Joseph is still under contract.

2007: The New York Rangers sign Swedish goalie Henrik Lundqvist to an extension. He got 30 and 37 wins in this first two full NHL seasons. Lundqvist goes on to win at least 30 games in each of the next nine full NHL seasons and wins the Vezina Trophy in 2012 after going 39-18-5 with a 1.97 goals-against average and a .930 save percentage.
