Pittsburgh Penguins Comic Captions for 2019-20

Evgeni Malkin

Evgeni Malkin has done it all for the Pittsburgh Penguins. While his teammate Sidney Crosby was sidelined with an injury, Malkin stepped up big time scoring 11 goals and 27 assists in the 28 games Crosby missed. Pretty impressive.

Considering that Malkin missed 14 games due to injury himself, he still led the team in scoring. He accumulated 25 goals and 49 assists in 55 games. He put the team on his back and led them to third place in the Metro Division. In the absence of their captain, Malkin led by example and inspired his teammates to perform.

Going into the playoffs, the Penguins will have Jake Guentzel back who threw in 43 points including 20 goals in 39 games before his injury. Adding him back to the lineup just makes the Penguins even more difficult to beat. Good luck Montreal Canadiens.

To further display Malkin’s performance, the team went 11-11-1 after Crosby’s return, while going 18-6-4 without Sid the Kid.

Sidney Crosby

Sidney Crosby IS the Pittsburgh Penguins. He epitomizes their success, their toughness and their ability to fight on. His statistics speak for themselves. Due to his injury, he was only able to appear in 41 games this season. It doesn’t matter as he displayed why he’s one of the best players in the NHL. He tallied 16 goals (four power-play tallies) with 31 assists to show his dominance.

His team did what it could without him due to his recovery from a sports hernia injury. This is a team that knows how to step up when key players are out of the lineup. They did it without Crosby, they did it without Malkin, and they did it without Guentzel.

Crosby is waiting patiently to lead his team in the playoffs against the Montreal Canadiens. That is the time of the season where Crosby excels in every department. It’s practically impossible to stop him, so you merely attempt to slow him down if possible.

I wouldn’t want to be Carey Price just about now.

Tristan Jarry

Tristan Jarry has played so well that the team is considering moving Matt Murray since Jarry had a better year. Both goaltenders are restricted free agents after this season. The difference in salaries is considerable. Murray makes $3.75 million, while Jarry is receiving $675,000. Jarry had a 20-12-1 record with a .921 save percentage. His 2.43 goals-against-average was outstanding. Murray had a similar record going 20-11-5. His .899 save percentage was substandard and his 2.87 goals-against-average wasn’t great either.

The thing is, Jarry will command and get a good raise to re-sign, and the team won’t need two goalies earning more than $5-6 million each. Whether or not that makes Murray expendable is yet to be determined. Jarry seems to have the inside track on the starting goalie gig and Murray looks to be the odd man out.

The team also has Casey DeSmith and his $1.25 million salary to consider. He would be an adequate backup to Jarry if Murray gets moved.
